What is Compounding?

Compounding has been part of healthcare since the early days of pharmacy. In the compounding process, our specially trained pharmacists create customised medications by mixing individual ingredients in the exact strength and dosage that our patient requires, as requested by their doctor.

We can even create specialist medication from scratch that:

  • is not available in Australia;
  • is no longer being produced;
  • has been discontinued.

Why Use Compounded Medication?

Remove Allergies

As a compounding chemist, we create compounded medication that is personalised for you, which enables us to leave out ingredients that may cause you an allergic reaction such as lactose, preservatives, dyes, gluten and sugar which are commonly found in mass produced medications.

Change How Medication Is Applied Or Ingested

We can compound medications into various other forms/applications for the patients that require it. For example, if a patient has difficulty swallowing, they may find it easier to ingest their medication as a flavoured liquid.

Flavouring can also make unpleasant tasting medications easier to ingest and it won't compromise the medications effectiveness.

Some medications can also be compounded into an oitment or gel that can be applied and absorbed through the skin.
